RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - antipelican - 02-14-2025 Apparently federal probationary employees are being fired en masse. Including over 1000 VA employees. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/federal-layoffs-probationary-workers-warnings-bigger-cuts-on-way/ RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - gorzek - 02-14-2025 I heard it's about 100K employees altogether, maybe as many as 200K. Truly cruel and evil behavior. Probationary employees are only supposed to be terminated due to poor performance or malfeasance, but laws don't matter anymore. RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - antipelican - 02-14-2025 New EO just dropped. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/02/establishing-the-presidents-make-america-healthy-again-commission/ Some highlights: "These health burdens have continued to increase alongside the increased prescription of medication. For example, in the case of Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, over 3.4 million children are now on medication for the disorder — up from 3.2 million children in 2019-2020 — and the number of children being diagnosed with the condition continues to rise." "(iii) assess the prevalence of and threat posed by the prescription of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, stimulants, and weight-loss drugs; " This seems in line with RFK's whole thing about putting people with mental health diagnoses in work camps or whatever he was spouting. The pharmaceutical industries make too much money though, if they go up against them and try to reduce their profit margins by banning certain medications...I don't know how that would go. RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - gorzek - 02-14-2025 A court case is also looking to gut disability rights in the US: https://www.disability-rights-watch.com/2025/02/12/take-it-to-the-streets-flyers-page/ And yes, I am personally hoping that these guys messing with Big Pharma get dealt with the way anyone who threatens billions of dollars would. One thing that's so infuriating about the current fascist wave is that they correctly pointed out that a lot of things are broken. Their solutions are terrible, evil, self-serving. But they do understand what things people consider to be problems. (Some of the problems are also made up, to be fair, but not all of them are.) Meanwhile the Dem approach all last year was "everything is fine, what inflation," etc. and it's no wonder they got trounced for that. RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - gorzek - 02-14-2025 DOGE was laying people off at the Department of Energy whose job it was to maintain our nuclear stockpile, which resulted in frantic calls from bosses that led to a pause in the layoffs. These are people who make sure our nuclear weapons don't, like, accidentally blow up or land in the hands of bad guys. RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - antipelican - 02-14-2025 Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on that one too. Really awful time to be a BIPOC, immigrant, disabled, or trans in this country. Things have never been "good" for any of these marginalized groups, but they're really setting it up to at minimum take away all of our civil rights and at worst round us all up. I work in the disability field and getting rid of 504 is going to be absolutely devastating on so many levels. RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - gorzek - 02-14-2025 Yeah, things are heading to a new low and it's fucking horrible. No medical care, no education, no infrastructure, no food, no jobs... You'd think rich assholes would figure out that they can't even fly safely right now. That's how bad they've broken things. I found it 4 so far https://www.fox4news.com/news/deadly-plane-crashes-2025-timeline RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - gorzek - 02-14-2025 There have been 3 plane crashes killing 78 people altogether. We had not had a fatal air crash since 2020. We haven't had a year with this many aircraft-related fatalities since 2001 (an Airbus crash in November, not 9/11 as might be your first guess.) Also, a Delta plane crashed in Toronto today. Miraculously, nobody died this time. RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - gorzek - 02-21-2025 Couple of big ones:
RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - gorzek - 03-03-2025 Let's give Trump a hand: not many people can crash the US stock market with a few sentences the way he can. RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - gorzek - 03-04-2025 Tariffs are happening starting April 2, including on all food imports/exports with Mexico/Canada. Trump, in his pure genius, told American farmers to ramp up production ahead of time. I am not sure the sun and the soil can be told to hurry things up but, I dunno, I'm not a farmer. RE: Trump tracking thread / general hell thread - gorzek - 03-14-2025 So I guess we're not having a shutdown because Dems decided to vote for a CR. lol.
