I hadn't posted about this for a couple days because I didn't have time to mess with it further. But at this point I've got Proxmox up and running. I set up a storage pool and now I'm going through the LXC script installers: https://community-scripts.github.io/ProxmoxVE/scripts
These are little snippets you run on a Proxmox server to install specific things, such as particular types of server apps (Plex, etc.) It can also install what you might call turnkey appliance managers, like CasaOS, which run as their own sort of supervisory platform for installing various pre-packaged apps.
I'm not exposing any of this to the Internet and probably won't anytime soon, not until I'm comfortable with how it's all working. Ideally I wire this up to dynamic DNS and then have certbot ensuring everything gets certificates. Again, stretch goals.
Some of these tools may ultimately interact with the forum so it's all of a piece.
