One tip I remember from childhood: powdered milk is dirt cheap. It's not quite as good as the real thing, but if you're mainly using it for cooking it's fine.
It's not great for cereal, but if it's all you got it's all you got.

No longer a milk drinker, but I grew up with powdered milk. Pro-tip: first off you gotta blend it, blender or immersion blender are fine. If you can't blend it, you better shake it like a polaroid to get it all mixed up. Second, this is key, the colder the better. Cold will improve the taste.
