All of the court cases surrounding Trump's EOs are being tracked here: https://www.courtwatch.news/p/lawsuits-r...ive-orders

So only about 1% of federal employees have taken the buyout/"deferred resignation" offer. It expires tonight at midnight. They apparently were hoping 10-15% would take it, so as a policy initiative this is a disaster. Of course I don't blame anyone for not taking it--there's no guarantee it's legal to do this or that anyone will be paid.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was told by the DOJ that they must remove all mention of LGBTQIA+ issues and materials from any of their sites. They must also deadname trans children when releasing reports.
This is so exceptionally evil that I think anyone involved in this policy should be [redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted redacted ...

I'm keeping a particularly close eye on the Department of Education. It's not looking good.
The DoEd was instructed to end all programs providing support for transgender students: https://www.propublica.org/article/depar...ents-email
The DOGE Hitler Youth have apparently obtained administrator-level privileges at the DoEd and physically blocked House Democrats from entering this week. According to this article, they have allegedly been feeding the sensitive information they have access to into AI: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/elo...rcna191244
Musk claims that the Department of Education "no longer exists." video: https://www.msnbc.com/all-in/watch/elon-...1453765781
Trump is drafting an Executive Order to "end the DoED". (Not how that works, but who's going to stop them?) This EO would re-assign certain functions to other departments, such as putting student FAFSA/financial aid under the umbrella of the Treasury (also allegedly controlled by Musk now), and move vocational programs to the DoL (yet another department Musk allegedly already controls/is trying to abolish.) https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/04/polit...index.html
I will continue tracking this. If the DoEd goes down, I'm going to be having a bad time.

Lol. They're just throwing as much shit at the wall as they can, and grabbing direct sources of control (i.e. Treasury payment systems) as quickly as they can, and are going to see what sticks in the ensuing chaos. I think we probably won't see people actually taking efforts to physically regain control of agency buildings and administrative access for the moment, everyone is still focused on the "legal" route such as injunctions and lawsuits, which don't matter if Musk doesn't listen to them as he allegedly has direct control over the payments. When and if the actual funding vanishes, and the employees are all gone, there may be a militarized effort to take back the buildings and admin controls, but maybe not...and it might be too late by then.
Either way, all this instability is going to have a ripple effect down the chain to state and local-level programs, whether or not the shit ultimately sticks. Having worked a long time for programs that are funded largely by federal and state grants, the amount of local economic instability that will be caused by all this is almost unimaginable. Schools, universities, community mental health, workforce development, healthcare, research...it's all going to get pretty rough pretty fast. And it's already happening where I am. Research programs shutting down, bhc/cmh and state agencies tightening their belts...this is all occurring just from the threat of having funding cut. Mind you these programs are already insufficiently funded for the level of need.

Trump is halting production of pennies, which is somehow not the worst idea ever, but talk about grasping at straws.

Yeah, you're not wrong about any of that... the damage done will persist, even if the actions that caused it are halted. Holding back funding for even a month can be a fatal blow for a lot of projects.
Weird how "making America great" means kneecapping all the things that give us any kind of competitive edge, like medical research.
Our enemies just get to sick back and laugh as the country destroys itself at the behest of dipshit billionaires.
Destroying the American empire would be a cool outcome except for all the suffering of innocent people it will also cause. But that's how it always goes when things collapse, I guess.

CPFB staff have been told to stop all work. They aren't laid off, per se, but they are now not allowed to do their jobs.

This is such a joke ass country.
Trump has now ordered agencies to submit reorg and RIF plans within 30 days. This is a more narrowly targeted order, though: the main jobs being targeted are positions related to DEI, and any jobs which are not essential enough to keep operating during a government shutdown. Obviously, this is prep for a shutdown. Because we always need those.
