Apparently federal probationary employees are being fired en masse. Including over 1000 VA employees. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/federal-lay...ts-on-way/

I heard it's about 100K employees altogether, maybe as many as 200K. Truly cruel and evil behavior.
Probationary employees are only supposed to be terminated due to poor performance or malfeasance, but laws don't matter anymore.

New EO just dropped. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-...ommission/
Some highlights:
"These health burdens have continued to increase alongside the increased prescription of medication.  For example, in the case of Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, over 3.4 million children are now on medication for the disorder — up from 3.2 million children in 2019-2020 — and the number of children being diagnosed with the condition continues to rise."
"(iii)   assess the prevalence of and threat posed by the prescription of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, stimulants, and weight-loss drugs; "
This seems in line with RFK's whole thing about putting people with mental health diagnoses in work camps or whatever he was spouting.
The pharmaceutical industries make too much money though, if they go up against them and try to reduce their profit margins by banning certain medications...I don't know how that would go.

A court case is also looking to gut disability rights in the US: https://www.disability-rights-watch.com/...yers-page/
And yes, I am personally hoping that these guys messing with Big Pharma get dealt with the way anyone who threatens billions of dollars would.
One thing that's so infuriating about the current fascist wave is that they correctly pointed out that a lot of things are broken. Their solutions are terrible, evil, self-serving. But they do understand what things people consider to be problems. (Some of the problems are also made up, to be fair, but not all of them are.)
Meanwhile the Dem approach all last year was "everything is fine, what inflation," etc. and it's no wonder they got trounced for that.

DOGE was laying people off at the Department of Energy whose job it was to maintain our nuclear stockpile, which resulted in frantic calls from bosses that led to a pause in the layoffs.
These are people who make sure our nuclear weapons don't, like, accidentally blow up or land in the hands of bad guys.

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on that one too.
Really awful time to be a BIPOC, immigrant, disabled, or trans in this country. Things have never been "good" for any of these marginalized groups, but they're really setting it up to at minimum take away all of our civil rights and at worst round us all up. I work in the disability field and getting rid of 504 is going to be absolutely devastating on so many levels.

Yeah, things are heading to a new low and it's fucking horrible.
No medical care, no education, no infrastructure, no food, no jobs...
You'd think rich assholes would figure out that they can't even fly safely right now. That's how bad they've broken things.

how many airplane crashes have there been since dump truck destroyed air traffic regulations?

oh.,.. I found it
4 so far
https://www.fox4news.com/news/deadly-pla...5-timeline
There have been 3 plane crashes killing 78 people altogether.
We had not had a fatal air crash since 2020.
We haven't had a year with this many aircraft-related fatalities since 2001 (an Airbus crash in November, not 9/11 as might be your first guess.)

https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-cong...-bill/1161
Quote:squirrelstone said:

The sponsor, Earl Carter, is doing this to distract from the bill he sponsored immediately before this, H.R. 1160, which appears to classify all traveling doctors and "advanced care practitioners" as independent contractors (can't be 100% sure as the text hasn't been released yet, but it sounds like it's gonna be exactly what it says on the tin).

If you've ever seen a post about doordash or lyft drivers being overworked and underpaid, this is basically the same thing but for doctors. Here's an article about why independent contractors are bad for the worker, but here's the cliff notes:
  • shit pay
  • no benefits
  • social isolation (coworkers changing frequently, so you don't have time to make friends or even proper acquaintances)
  • not actually independent workers/still tied to a company

They dressed it up by adding this reasoning to the end of the title "to help alleviate physician shortages, including in underserved areas," but it's just political theater. Any physician would still need proper licensing, and there are already systems and travelling doctor companies in place designed to address underserved areas. The only difference is that the companies would be "required" (i.e. CEOs have been chomping at the bit to do this) to make all these doctors ICs instead of salaried employees.

All this to say, when you see some outrageous shit like this, look for the stuff that's been released at the same time. That's what they're actually trying to get passed.

The mental gymnastics required for women to think Trump's agenda wasn't horribly sexist are really astonishing.
Also, a Delta plane crashed in Toronto today. Miraculously, nobody died this time.

Couple of big ones:
  •  Medicare coverage of telehealth services will end April 1
  • Postal Service to have its leadership board dissolved and the entire department absorbed into the administration (this is bad)

Let's give Trump a hand: not many people can crash the US stock market with a few sentences the way he can.

Tariffs are happening starting April 2, including on all food imports/exports with Mexico/Canada.
Trump, in his pure genius, told American farmers to ramp up production ahead of time.
I am not sure the sun and the soil can be told to hurry things up but, I dunno, I'm not a farmer.
